Brief reminder of Part 1 (without mistake ) :
La Defense, a business district located in Greater Paris, began to develop in 1956 with the construction of the CNIT. The development of the district progressively developed from 1958 with the construction of the first towers and dwellings.

---------------- In 1974, second-generation towers appared to meet the high demand. Towers of more than 100000, m2 were build, reaching a heigt of 184 metres with 44 floors.
To revive the construction of La Défense, third generation towers were erect in the 1980s, based on a more economical model : less wide and less high, like the Michelet sector. In 1981, the openning of Les 4 Temps shopping centre made it a major commercial centre in Ile de France. In 2009, the district is home to the headquarters of major French and foreign multinationals and has 2500, companies, approximavely 180000, employees and 20000, inhabitant in 71 towers.
It is not an isolated business centre, but it is located in an area of western Paris where the service sector is particularly developped.

If La Défense represents the economic centre of Paris, regrouping the head offices of the largest French companies, it also attract many tourists who come to admire the unique architecture of this place where the Grande Arche was built in the axe of the Arc de Triomphe.
