    The Manufacture de Sèvres represents 280 years of intact knowledge, but how did it built this reputation?
    Born in China, porcelain fascinate by its whiteness. It is made of three rocks : kaolin, feldspar and quartz. Under the old regime, it was nickname ' white gold ' . It was thus highly seek after, and the European courts set out to discover the secrets of its manufacture, which become a real political issue!
    Louis XV, encouraged by Madame de Pompadour, finances the creation of the Manufacture de Vincennes in 1740, for soft porcelain. In 1709, the discovery of a kaolin deposit in Saxony lead to the creation of the first hard porcelain factory Meissen, which jalously guarded the secret of its manufacture for almost half a century.
    Father François-Xavier d ' Entrecolles, a Jesuit from Limoges, on a mission to China, reveales in a letter in 1712 how Chinese porcelain was make. He was the first one to produce porcelain in Europe, together with Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus and Johann Friedrich Böttger.
