Brief reminder of Part 1 (without mistake ) :
The Amiens hortillonnages are a group of floating gardens surrounded by 65 kilometres of waterways and ditches. These cultivated plots of land lie on a 300 hectare silt patchwork squeezed between the arms of the Somme and Avre rivers.

Before the middle of the 20th century, the Hortillons (market gardeners of the Hortillonnages ) regularly sold their early produce at the ' markets on the water ' as well as pea for heating. Today, this market in its traditionnal form, takes place in June in the Saint-Leu district. Thus, it revivres the market gardening activity of the 19th century in Amiens.
Once a year, the market on the water takes place like in the past. The hortillons, in traditional costume, fleat down the Somme in the hornboats loaded with vegetables, red fruits and flowers to the Place Parmentier. This coluoful market, with its scents and customs, retrace the ancestral tradition of authentic products from the hortillonnages.

The floating gardens form an exceptional green seting that can be discovered by boat, along the water, in the maze of canals. The hortillonnages craete an area of great ecological weath with a diverse flora and faune.
They represent the green lung in the heart of Amiens.
