Let ' s take a look at the daily life of gorillas. They live in tropical or subtropical forests. They can be see in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. They can also be found in Nigeria, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Angola. Gorillas live up to 30 years in the wild and up to 50 years in captivitie. Gorillas live in groups with a dominant male, call as the ' silverback ' , along with several females and a few young. It is the patriarche who defend his family. When there are several males in the group, only the dominant male can mate. Males leave the family group when they reach adultehood, ie. around 13 years of age.
The ' silverback ' manages all the group ' s activities, such as feeding, resting time, when to move and where to sleep. The silverback is the group ' s guardian. It will not hesitate to give its life to protect its members. It watchs over each gorilla. If a female deis and leaves her young alone, the silverback is responsible for bring them up. If the leader of the group dies, the remaining families can either join another group, or they can wait for a new dominant male to emerge and take over the role of laeder.
