    Choosing? Yes, choosing between two words which have 'the same meaning' but are

    not used in the same circumstances... Choosing isn't always an easy task...

    Let's have a look...

     

    A) STEAL or ROB? 

    A1) TO STEAL (I stole, stolen) : to take (the property of another) without permission or right,

    especially secretly or by force

    - Some thieves stole our neighbour's car... 

    - The tramp stole food from the shop. 

     Be careful about the prepositions accompanying the verb: to steal something FROM

    somebody/ somewhere. 

    - Someone stole ten chickens from our henhouse. 

     

                              


    A2) TO ROB (regular verb) : to deprive of something unjustly

    - Pat was robbed of her pounds in the underground. 

    - She's been afraid since she was robbed in the street.

     

     The preposition following the verb: to rob OF something. 

    - She was robbed of her most precious jewels. 


                            


    B) REMEMBER ou REMIND: 

    B1) REMEMBER: (regular verb): to recall to the mind by an act or effort of memory; think of

    something again

    - I remember his face, but I can't remember his name!

     - She remembered her appointment to the dentist.

     

     Remember is not followed by a preposition. TO REMEMBER something/ somebody.

    - She remembered our past Xmas together. 


                                               

        Remember song lyrics...                                                              Remember me...


    B2) To REMIND: (regular verb): make (someone) aware (of something he may have forgotten

     Two structures are possible: - TO REMIND SOMEBODY TO DO SOMETHING

                                                     -  TO REMIND SOMEBODY of SOMETHING

    - She reminded her to switch off the light.

    - Can you remind me of her birth date? 

     

                      

       To remind someone of something...                              To remind someone of someone else...

                 A reminder...
