Despite its close resemblance to humans, the gorilla is being destroyed by man. This primate is a species that has reached the critical threhold of extinction, but fortunatly associations are being set up to limit these genocides.

In Congo and Rwanda, armed gangs have been on the ranpage for years. Gorillas are hunted like never before for food and as part of a despicable trade. Wars also have a detrimantal effect on animals in general. The growing human population is encoaching ever further on their land. These primates are also threatened by the destruction of forests.
Their habitat is being burn down to make way for intensive farming. Their disappaerance is confirmed and has reached an unbearable level for these species, which reproduce at a low rate. Female gorillas only give birth to a calf every four or five years. Infectieus diseases, a high infant mortality rate and a long period between births make them particularely vulnerable.
However, numerous conservation efforts have been put in place to safeguard the gorillas, with the creation of nature parks oversien by armed guards to protect the environment. The result is ecotourism, which offers economic benefits to local communities.
