    The verb "BE" in the present tense in interrogative form

    The verb "BE" is an essential irregular verb in English. Its conjugation in the present tense is as follows:

    • I am
    • You are
    • He/She/It is
    • We are
    • You are
    • They are

    To form a question with the verb "BE" in the present tense, simply reverse the order of the subject and the verb. Here are some examples:

    • Affirmative: You are a student.

    • Interrogative: Are you a student?

    • Affirmative: He is tall.

    • Interrogative: Is he tall?

    • Affirmative: They are happy.

    • Interrogative: Are they happy?

    Other examples of questions with "BE" in the present tense:
    • Am I late?
    • Is she a doctor?
    • Are we lost?
    • Are you ready?
    • Is it raining?
    Questions with interrogative words:

    We can also add interrogative words (who, what, where, when, why, how) to ask more specific questions:

    • What is your name?
    • Where are you from?
    • Why are they sad?
    • How old is she?
    Short answers:

    In general, short answers to questions with "BE" in the present tense are "yes" or "no", followed by the personal pronoun and the verb "BE" in the appropriate form:

    • Are you a student?
    • Yes, I am.
    • No, I am not.
