Question tags - English lesson
General structure:
Positive sentence ➡ negative question tag
Negative sentence ➡ positive question tag
➡️ Examples:
You are French, aren't you?
She can swim, can't she?
They don't like pizza, do they?
➡️ How to form a question tag:
Identify the auxiliary verb (be, do, have, can, will, etc.)
Repeat the auxiliary in the question tag.
Reverse the meaning (positive sentence → negative tag, negative sentence → positive tag).
Use the correct subject pronoun (I, you, he, she, we, they).
➡️ Tip:
If there's no auxiliary in the sentence, use do / does / did:
You like music, don't you?
He watched the film, didn't he?
➡️ Special cases :
With I am, we say:
I'm your friend, aren't I? (not amn't I)
With let's, we use:
Let's go to the park, shall we?
➡️ Remember:
We use question tags to:
Check information
Be polite
Start or keep a conversation going
