Present simple - English lesson
Uses:
To talk about habits, likes, or repeated actions
(e.g. I go to school every day.)
To express general truths
(e.g. The sun rises in the east.)
To talk about a fixed schedule
(e.g. The train leaves at 8 a.m.)
Formation:
🔹 Affirmative form: Subject + Verb (+ -s in the 3rd person singular)
I play football.
He plays football.
A few special cases :
When the verb ends in: -ch, -sh, -s, -x, -z, -o, you add -ES:
He watches TV.
She goes to school.
It finishes at 6 p.m.
He misses the bus every day.
When the verb ends in consonant + Y, change the Y to IES:
She studies hard. (study → studies)
He carries his bag. (carry → carries)
❗But if the verb ends in vowel + Y, just add -S:
He plays the guitar.
🔹 Negative form: Subject + don't / doesn't + Verb
She doesn't like coffee. (3rd person singular)
They don't work on Sundays.
🔹 Interrogative form: Do / Does + Subject + Verb
Do you like music?
Does he play tennis? (3rd person singular)
