WH- Questions... + present simple - English lesson
Wh- Questions in English
What are Wh- questions?
Wh- questions are questions that start with a question word.
We use them to ask open questions-so we're not just expecting "yes" or "no", but real information.
Main Wh- question words:
➡️ What - used to ask what thing or which.
Example: What is your name?
➡️ Where - used to ask about a place.
Example: Where do you live?
➡️ When - used to ask about time.
Example: When is your birthday?
➡️ Who - used to ask about a person.
Example: Who is your best friend?
➡️ Why - used to ask for a reason.
Example: Why are you tired?
➡️ How - used to ask about the way something happens.
Example: How do you go to school?
Even though "how" doesn't start with "Wh", we include it because it works the same way.
How to build a Wh- question?
Here's the structure:
Wh- word + auxiliary + subject + verb + rest of the sentence
Examples:
What do you like doing?
Where does she live?
Why are you crying?
The auxiliary changes depending on the tense (present, past...) and the subject (I, you, he, she...).
The questions below will be in the present simple.
⚠️ Reminders:
With he / she / it, use does in the present.
Example: Where does he live?
