    Past Simple of the verb be

     


    🔹 1. Present → Past
    The verb be changes in the past:

    am / is → was
    (I am / He is → I was / He was)

    are → were
    (You are / They are → You were / They were)

     

     

    🔹 2. Affirmative sentences
    Use was or were:

    I / he / she / it → was
    Example: She was at school.

    we / you / they → were
    Example: You were late.

     

     

    🔹 3. Negative sentences
    To make negative forms, add not:

    was not = wasn't

    were not = weren't

    Examples:

    I was at home. → I wasn't at school.

    They were sad. → They weren't happy.

     

     

     

    🔹 4. Questions (Interrogative form)
    To ask a question, move was / were before the subject:

    He was tired. → Was he tired?

    They were outside. → Where were they?

     

     

    🔹 5. Common Mistakes - Be careful!
    ❌ Don't use did with was / were
    ✅ Was she there?
    Did she be there?

    ❌ Don't use was with you
    ✅ You were happy.
    You was happy.
