    The order of adjectives.

Here is a lesson I have already studied with you, very quickly, with other important points.

Experience has shown that it needs to be reviewed carefully, perhaps even learnt and remembered...

Well, if you follow the advice given below, this work can quickly become quite easy, and perhaps even funny... ?

"THE ORDER of the adjectives"  when there are several adjectives qualifying a noun,

they must be in a particular order: adjectives which describe opinions or attitudes

(e.g. amazingusually come first, before more neutral, factual ones (e.g. red).The order is:

Size (form, dimension), Age (new, young, old), Colour (golden, blue, red), Origin

(nationality, religion, geographical  or politicalorigin), Material (plastic, leather, glass).

    (Reminder: SACOM

I can see you, (as well as I still see my High School students  ) and I can hear you, as

well as I hear them. 'No, please, Madam, remembering all that is impossible!'

Luckily, there are only two mnemonic techniques to remember for the two languages.

You only have to remember TACOM in French/ SACOM in English. (sigh of relief!  )

    - Gatsby's big(T), brand-new(A),yellow(C) car was extraordinary.

    - an amazing(x) tiny(T)beige(C) Turkish (O)leather(M) bag.

    - Daisy was a beautiful(x),young (A), fair-haired and grey-eyed(C) woman.

As said above, an adjective expressing a SUBJECTIVE JUDGEMENT(x), AN OPINION,

nice, good, bad, rich, clever, stupid, wonderful...  se place en tête, le plus loin du nom. (ici,

    subjective opinion: x)

    - a stupid (x) old man - a strange(x) thin little boy

There may also be other combinaitions of adjectives: ( size + shape + Age) in this order.

After 'Material', we may have 'Purpose' [type, objective, destination] just before the noun.

Here you are, ready for the test ! It isn't difficult, but will need some attention at first, for sure!

In order to help you, here are the two reminders!

    Determiner +  OPINION / SIZE / SHAPE / AGE / COLOUR / ORIGIN / MATERIAL / OBJECTIVE + noun.

May the FORCE be with you! Enjoy!
