Vocabulary: lose, waste: in many ways...
Teaching a language, is 'repeating' again and again, that the target language should never be compared to the students' mother language. Yet, one word or another we might be reminded that sometimes, it's necessary to refer to your own language and... observe!
Observe, for instance that the French verb " perdre " can be expressed with different verbs in English; then, at that moment, you think it's better to compare, ... and learn!

- We got lost/ lost our bearings in the mountains and were rescued hours later.
- I got (To get, I got, got/ gotten) out of the habit of doing something.
- To run until you're breathless/ out of breath.
- I can't make head or tail of it! (I can't understand anything!).
- I have nothing to lose!
- We mustn't lose sight of the fact that he must be gone at 5.
- She soaks everything up like a sponge!
- He has his head screwed on right!
Those are a few expressions to remember, or at least, to be able to recognise!
