    Tricky plurals.

    TRICKY PLURALS

My intention isn't to start again, give complements, or compexify the

    test I've made before: test

On the contrary, I will study the plurals (and the 'false singulars') that

are problems to you and lead you to make mistakes.... Pity... I'll try to help!

    1) There are "real irregular plurals":  where the word is different in the singular

    and the plural.

man -> men                  child -> children            foot -> feet

woman -> women          tooth -> teeth               mouse -> mice

    2) There are nouns called "uncountables":  that can't be counted.

You can find 'singular uncountables" and plural uncountables": the problem is to recognise them. (just learn them! )

they take no -s and need a verb in the SINGULAR.

    - bread/ furniture / grass/ informationknowledge / vocabulary/  luggage/ money/ milk/

    pasta/ progress/ slang / sheep / fish /news/ shrimp/.

in order to specify there's only one item: a slice of bread/ a blade of grass/ a piece of information/

    a piece of knowledge/ a piece of luggage/ a word of vocabulary/  etc.

    * Plural uncountables: they have no singular and cannot be used with numbers:

    - groceries/ arms/ remains/ goods/ customs/ clothes/ thanks/ regards/ police and words

    like trousers / jeans/ pyjamas/ pants/ scissors/ spectacles...

    3) Those words and expressions bothering you...

    * The first one... and the worst: PEOPLE is always followed by a verb in the PLURAL.

    - Lots of people are interested in the History of their families.

    * EVERYONE + verb in the singular

EVERYBODY + verb in the singular

    * No one/ Nobody + verb in the singular

    * All of the students (+ Noun and verb in the plural)/ Some of the students + noun and V

    in the plural.

    ... and your nightmare: ONE of the + noun in the PLURAL, verb in the SINGULAR;

    - In this choir, one of the men sings wonderfully.

    I know, I know...

... and I can't even give you tips... Frankly, with a little logic, if you don't rush and

think a little, you should be able to manage and get out of it!

Your attention has now been drawn to those 'traitors', and you will be able to watch

out for them and listen to the alarm bell warning you when they are here...

THE FORCE will be with YOU!
