Passive form - English lesson
WHAT ?
- to say what has been done -> the cake has been eaten by grandmother
- to focus on the thing done when the subjet is not important -> the cake has been put away
HOW?
Grandmother has eaten the cake -> grandmother = subject
Has eaten = Verb phrase (Present Perfect Tense)
The cake = Direct object
a. the direct object is used as the subject of the passive sentence-> The cake....
b. add the verb To be in the same tense as the sentence of the active voice = has been -> the cake has been..
c. Add the past participle of the main verb = to eat- ate - eaten -> the cake has been eaten
D. If it's necessary add the agent = By grandmother
-> the cake has been eaten by grandmother
Take care : the agent is NOT USED when not important => people sometimes steal glasses => glasses are sometimes stolen.
