Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was American. He was born on April 13th 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia. He studied at the college of William and Mary.He married Martha Wayles Skelton and had six children. He inherited land when his father died and he built his home at Monticello.
He was a leader in advocating republicanism in America and insisted that the country must be independent from Great-Britain. He is the man who wrote the original version of the Declaration of Independence of the United States declared in 1776. It made the thirteen colonies in North America free from the rule of Great-Britain.
With James Madison he founded the Republican party in 1792.
He was the governor of Virginia from 1779 to 1781, and the author of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom.
He was the minister to France in 1785. and the First Secretary of State during the presidency of George Washington ( 1789-1793).
Jefferson was the third president of the U.S.A from 1801 to 1809.
In 1803, he bought Louisiana from Napoleon Bonaparte .
He died on July 4th 1826 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
