My second day on Earth
MY SECOND DAY ON EARTH.
He was not a man. Yet he was very much like a man. He was six and a half feet tall. His hair was white and his eyes were blue, but his face was a light brown colour. His body was very thin and almost without hair. There was a fine boyish look to his wide intelligent eyes. He seemed quite young …
He walked for two miles until he came to a town. At the side of the road was a sign. 'HANEYVILLE : population : 1,400' it said. It was still early in the morning, and there was no one in the streets. Everything was so strange. He felt worried and frightened. He tried not to think about what he was going to do.
In the small shopping centre he found what he wanted. It was a small shop called THE JEWEL BOX.
From The Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis, adapted by David Fickling.
NB : a foot = 12 inches = 30,48 cm
