Hello dears,
Another easy exercice that everyone can do! Let's write together...
1) Do you read during your holidays? If you do, what sort of books?
2) "Too little, too late!" What does the expression bring to your mind?
3) Tell us about your latest dream (or nightmare)?
Cet exercice sera corrigé le vendredi 28 août 2026 ! with THE FORCE, GO FOR IT!

Hello dears,

Here is our first ANSWER. Thanks for helping its author.

ANSWER A: topic 3: Please, indicate possible mistakes, and underline what you think is clumsy.

My last dream was an awful nightmare. It was a winter evening when I came home from work; at that time of the year, it was already dark. I had just missed the bus that was leaving when I arrived... since it only passed every half hour. I decided to walk. Going through the park, the path was shorter. I moved quietly when I heard a quick step behind me. Although not very reassured, I didn't want to show my fear by hastening my step, nor did I dare turn around. In an instant, I felt arms gripping me behind, a body rubbing against me. I shouted at myself but no sound came out of my mouth. So I bit the attacker's arm hard. At that moment, my husband shouted "OUCH"
What is happening to you? I woke up screaming aloud, let me go, let me go. But you bit me! said my husband, showing me his bloody arm.
Oh my love, I'm sorry, it was a nightmare.
In my sleep, I had actually grabbed and bitten my partner's arm. I still shiver as I tell it.
for your help!

"The original sentence with "since" was correct, with different punctuation: "I had just missed the bus that was leaving when I arrived. Since it only ran every half an hour, (comma)I decided to walk ..."
* Is "to" necessary because "dare" is used with "did"?. Would "nor dared I turn "... be correct?
I think "I shouted at myself" is not appropriate here because it means you're angry at yourself.

Hello gerold,

a lot for your excellent suggestions. (The whole text will be reviewed and explained during the upcoming correction...)Yet another point sounds clumsy and unnatural to me: 'Although not very reassured,' - A native would say something different...
Can we let Magie correct herself and suggest only if she can't see what I mean, please...

Hello dears,

Thanks a lot, dear Magie for your corrections. I'll explain in the collective correction.

hello Happy, I hope you've had wonderful holidays and haven't suffered from the heat too much...
Here is ANSWER B: Topic 3- Tell us about your latest dream (or nightmare)? Please, indicate possible mistakes,
and underline what looks clumsy to you.
From times to times, I have this dream, which I wouldn't describe exactly as a nightmare, but which leaves me always with a very uncomfortable feeling, and after which I'm very happy to awake; the circumstances may be quite different, but the general pitch is always the same: in some cases, I cannot find the classroom where I'm supposed to teach; in some others, I realise I've lost my satchel, and therefore I'm unable to teach lessons properly; or still, one by one, my students stop listening, a few of them even beginning to take the floor without been asked. In all these nice situations, I'm entirely out of my depth, absolutely overwhelmed with powerlessness. This dream usually came to me at the time when I was a teacher, but I still have it nowadays, yet more rarely. And, all things considered, I'd definitely call it a nightmare...
Thanks a lot to the writer and to the future correctors.

Complement de correction hello dears THANK YOU FOR HELP
My last dream was an awful nightmare. It was a winter evening when/ and (1) I came (back) home from work; at that time of the year, it was already dark. I had just missed the bus that was leaving when I arrived. ( As/ Since it only (ran every half (an hour,( I decided to walk*, instead of waiting for(2), cutting through the park, for the path was shorter/for it was shorter. I’d prefer : for the path was a real shortcut. I moved quietly when I heard a quick step/ quick footsteps (pace (3) behind me. Although I was frightened, I didn't want to show my fear by hastening my step, nor did I dare to (4) turn around. In an instant, I felt arms gripping me (from behind, a body rubbing against me/ mine. I (wanted to scream but no sound came out of my mouth.(Then I bit the attacker's arm hard. At that moment, my husband shouted : "OUCH"
«What is happening to you?» I woke up screaming aloud, «let me go, let me go ! » « But you bit me! » said my husband my husband shouted, (comma) showing me his bloody arm.
«Oh my love, I'm sorry, it was a nightmare.»
In my sleep, I had actually grabbed and bitten my partner's arm. I still shiver as I tell it. I’m still shivering as I tell it…(5)(I keep shivering (why not, mais ce n’est pas le problème…)
(4) Gerold asked : Is "to" necessary because "dare" is used with "did"? Would "nor dared I turn "... be correct?

ANSWER B: Topic 3- Tell us about your latest dream (or nightmare)? Gerold’s suggestions.
A good text, there is not much to say.
From time to time, I have this dream, which I wouldn't exactly describe exactly as a nightmare (or : call a nightmare(yes !)), but which leaves me always (better : always before leaves[YES !]) with a very uncomfortable feeling, and after which I'm very happy to awake; the circumstances may be quite different, but the general pitch is always the same: in some cases, I cannot find the classroom where I'm supposed to teach; in some others, I realise I've lost my satchel (not appropriate for teachers ) bag (Yes !), and therefore I'm unable to teach lessons properly; *or still, one by one, my students stop listening, a few of them even beginning to take the floor without been asked. In all these "nice" (if it is ironical and not a mistake[it obviously is !]) situations, I'm entirely out of my depth, absolutely overwhelmed with (better : by powerlessness. This dream usually came to me (at the time) (can be omitted [Yes]) when I was a teacher, but I still have it nowadays, yet/ now[vert]/but (more natural?) more rarely. (And, ??) All things considered, I'd definitely call it a nightmare...
- To take the floor: parler, prendre la parole sans autorisation.
- To be out of my depth: être dépassé.
- To be overwhelmed with/ by : both are correct.
Well done ! Congrats to both of you.

The text was well-written and rich, and the suggestions were very satisfactory.

ANSWER B: happynutmeg's new adjusments: Thank you Gerold for the correction.
I suggest this new version:
From time to time, I have this dream, which I wouldn't exactly describe as a nightmare, but which always leaves me

ANSWER B: Gerold's second thoughts at Happynutmeg's new correction:
I suggest this new version
From time to time, I have this dream, which I wouldn't exactly describe as a nightmare, but which always leaves me

Sorry, but I'll side with Gerold! I've never heard "satchel" used for teachers in British Secondary or Comprehensive Schools, or in an American Academy or High Schools. "Bag" was currently used. But of course, if a teacher spoke about "my satchel" here, everybody would understand...

That text was a relief for me... Happynutmeg,
I must admit I had never spoken about this sort of dream with my coworkers and friends... Though I repeatedly discussed it with my family... (who were calling me 'stupid'!)I used to have this 'nightmarish-dream' every year of my teaching, from the beginning of August to the day we went "back to school/ Lycée". I think mine were even worse than yours: I was required to teach 38 or 39 giggling students (no big deal, I'm used to that...
) History or MATHS (my real nightmare...)! Like you, at first, I couldn't find the classroom... and then, when I started teaching, the walls of the classroom started distorting, so that wherever I was standing, I couldn't see the whole 'class'... A horror!
and my students were not disciplined:
some even started smoking, and playing cards! Then this uproar and confusion were so unbearable that I used to wake up... I couldn't bear that total bedlam...
These 'dreams' have been very useful to me: they showed me how terrible teaching could be if you weren't ready for the different classes...
and if you didn't pretend you could be 'hard and demanding', though 'understanding and prone to joking and laughing'... They systematically stopped when I met my students... and started again the year after... A terrible experience! ...leading to a lot of work and unbelievable enjoyment...
Thanks for your work and commitment.
and
again!

Thank you for your comment, dear Here4U!
What a terrible nightmare indeed
I have especially liked: 'Students giggling, smoking and playing cards!'

That, no doubt, was a nightmare, wasn't it?
