    Hi guys,

I want to ask a question about "de" and "des"

Can you please tell the difference between these words?

    le livre des élèves

    le livre d'élève

    or

    les rues de la ville

    les rues de ville

    Hi,

    here is a sort explanation:

'des' is for something you know about. You know what it refers to:

E.g: =>le livre des élèves: we know who the students are ( from the school...)

=>le livre d'élève: it refers to a type of book: copybook etc it's a general term

Just the same thing with the other example:

les rues de la ville( we know which town it is about)

les rues de ville ( it can be about any street of any town)

If you need more help just ask!

    sebastien
