Hello everybody Delighted to be back among you!

Today, I would like to know what the differences between "effective" ("effectiveness") and "efficacious" ( "efficaciousness") are when talking about a treatment or drug, please.

    Thanks!

    Hello
    My old Webster says :
efficacious : producing the effect intended. having power adequate to the purpose intended.as an efficacious remedy for disease.

    effective :
    1) having an effect, producing a result
    2) producing a definite or desired result, efficient
    3) operative, active, in effect.
    4) making a striking impression, impressive.
    5) equipped and ready to combat, as a sailor or ship.
    syn : cogent, influential, forcible,potent, conclusive,convincing.

So maybe effective applies to the action and efficacious to the product.

    efficient :
    1) directly producing an effect or result. causative, effective as "the efficient cause".
    2) producing the desired effect or result with a minimum of effort, expense or waste. working well, competent, able, capable.
syn : able, capable, effective, competent.

    Thanks gerondif

So maybe effective applies to the action and efficacious to the product.
What do you mean? For instance, after taking a tablet and being cured, would you say it was effective or efficacious?

    See you!

    Efficacious is the right word.
