    Used to + negative
    Message de speedtiti posté le 01-04-2007 à 19:17:31 (S | E | F | I)

    Hello again !

I fancy using the form "used to + infinitive" and "to be used to + ING" but my question is :

Is it good English to use these forms with negative sentences such as :

"I didn't use to know that"

    or

"I'm not used to going to bed early"

What an awkward question, isn't it ?

    Thanks !

It's perfectly right to use those terms with negative sentences! Nevertheless I wouldn't say "I didn't use to know that" but instead "I didn't know it before".
ex: I didn't use to talk to him up to that day where....
I'm not used to going to bed early is perfect and is just a variant of "I'm used to going to bed late", same deal in French where you can alternately say both ways.
