Exercice : The/a/ø

Hello,
En ce lundi après-midi, j'ai effectué un petit exercice de révision, il faut compléter les espaces (ici les mots soulignés) par the/a/ø .
The last year, I went on holiday to the West Indies with my family. We stayed in a hotel near the beach. The weather was perfect, the people we met were very nice and we ate ø excellent food. The only problem was ø mosquitoes. We bought all the sorts of mosquito repellents but they were useless. The French speaking tourist guide we met on a beach one day said that ø mosquitoes usually were not that bad. As a matter of fact all the booklets we read never mentioned ø mosquitoes as being a serious nuisance. On the plane that took us back to London, we met plenty of ø people who had the same problem.

Salut !
Tu as bien du mérite de travailler de ton côté
*on met in October 2005, par exemple, pour définir quel mois et quelle année, mais pour une année seule et ici tu définis déjà l'année en introduisant LAST donc...
*People est déjà défini ( généralité ) donc....(indice: tu n'as pas fait la faute à la fin de ton exercice)
*Quand on parle de quelqu'un de précis, on ne mettra pas THE mais plutôt...( car cette personne est "répertoriée" dans un groupe, tu ne la définis pas par son apparence ou sa singularité
)*Quand on fait une nouvelle fois référence à un lieu ( ici beach ) , on n'utilise pas A mais....(car déjà défini par le contexte)
Encore un petit travail mais dans l'ensemble, plutôt bon je trouve
THE est vraiment embêtant, hein ? 
mais bon, en le travaillant, tu arriveras à trouver quand le mettre ou non ! See you !

Une dernière chose qui n'a aucun lien avec l'exercice au-dessus :
news est uncountable,
glasses est countable,
knives est countable,
MPs est countable .
N'est-ce pas ? Ou il y a des erreurs ?

Exactly. I'd like to add the following :
"News" is an uncountable noun. If you are talking about an individual item, you must say 'a piece of news'
