    Sachant que ?
    Message de liline26 posté le 15-10-2008 à 20:06:54 (S | E | F)

Bonsoir! Est-ce que quelqu'un pourrait m'aider à traduire "sachant que" parce que je le trouve pas dans mon dictionnaire et je sais pas si on peut utiliser "knowing that" mais je trouve que ça fait un peu bizarre. Ma phrase est la suivante : "I would require a detailed quotation for that project (sachant qu'il) will include the construction of the buildings..." (d'ailleurs si quelqu'un voit des fautes au passage...). Alors pour l'instant j'ai mis "which will include" mais j'aurais préféré mettre "sachant que" et "knowing that" me paraît pas adéquat non? Merci d'avance!

I would require a detailed quotation for that project knowing that it will include the construction of the buildings.

    As a native English speaker,
"I require a quotation knowing that it will include.."
    is certainly bizarre English.

Originally liline26 suggested "which will include", which might be on the right lines, if that is what was the meaning intended (ie. a quotation that MUST include...) in which case it would be better to simply say "a quotation that includes...".

Phrases "given that" expresses background information, give context, or give reasons.

"I am suprised that you let her eat so much sugar, given that she is diabetic"

"Given that I have complained about this three times already, should have fixed this by now".

"You put her life in danger when you let her eat so much sugar, knowing that she is diabetic" (="and you knew that she was")

"Seeing that/seeing as/since I obviously can't come to you, could you come to me" (speaker is in hospital with two broken legs).

"Seeing that you have lost my bags, what are you going to do about it?"

Hello! En tous cas apparemment personne semble être tout à fait d'accord sur la question.. Mais malheureusement j'ai déja rendu ma copie et j'avais pas eu le temps de voir vos réponses donc j'avais fini par mettre "knowing that" alors j'espère juste que ça va convenir à ma prof.. En tous cas merci beaucoup pour vos précisions!

Come to think of it, I think the best translation is "seeing as how", although this phrase is somewhat informal and probably would not be used in a business context.

That dog must really like you, seeing as how he leaps into your arms and licks your face whenever he sees you!
