    Some possible errors
    Message de foxvi posté le 29-06-2009 à 12:02:51 (S | E | F)

    I am currently going through the French vocabulary sheets, and I have come across one that I think has a few errors on it. Thee sheet in question is on Lien Internet
    and I think the errors are:

    cheminée d'échappement = exhaust stock
    On google translate, this comes up as exhaust chimney so I'm guessing
    exhaust pipe?

    feu de gabarit = marker light
    This comes up as lamp fixture, but from the translation used, I'm guessing
    indicator?

    chassis = pongeron
    I'm not even sure what pongeron is.

    réflecteur = reflector
    Possibly mirror?

    manivelle de la béquille = leg crank
    Google translates this as 'crank stands'. Is this the gear stick? I could be
    wrong though. :/

    My apologies if I have got these wrong and/or I have posted this in the wrong place.

    Hi,

    Here are the results

    cheminée d'échappement =
    exhaust pipe? ( one could also say ' échappement' in French)

    feu de gabarit = marker light ( you got it! this is the light which is at the extremity of the car body, to have an overall idea of its size)

    chassis = chassis ( Chassis is used both in French and in English)( Pongeron seems to exist but I have never seen it along my carreer)

    réflecteur = reflector ( that's it, it's not a mirror, it is a kind of plastic stuff that reflects the light(s)especially in case of haze, most of the time it is red and you find it on the bumpers of a car or at the back of trains)

    manivelle de la béquille = leg crank
    I would rather say tail skid, it is the iron bar that keeps a motorcycle on its wheels. The " manivelle de la béquille' does not exist, we just say " béquille'

    Normally, You have now the correct answers

    That is much clearer now and makes a lot more sense.

    Merci
