With Always? Present ing or present s?
    Message de orhellia posté le 11-10-2009 à 15:55:48 (S | E | F)

    Hello everybody...

I'm revising my english and I have a question about present.
In fact, I looked many website to learn english and sometimes they don't say the same thing about the present ing.

One say, with "always", I should use present ing as: "My fiend is always interrupting me when I study"
The video ( Exercice d'anglais n°405) says, "use present continuous for describe repeated actions"

but in this website: Lien Internet

They say: "use present simple with : often, always, never, usually, etc...

    Can you help me please?

    Hi!

In fact, you can say both but the meaning is different, look:

He always eats ( plain declaration, simply enonciating a fact => neutrality)

    vs

He is always eating ( the enonciator shows his disagreement, meaning => he is eating a lot, it's unhealthy

    look at your sentence:

"My fiend is always interrupting me when I study" => it means that the person is fed up, he/she can't study because someone is interupting him/her. The ING form expresses that anger.

    Does it make sense?

    Regards

    sebastien
