Pluperfect/prétérit

Hi everyone,
Can you help me please ?
I don't understandwe do why they say : "The interpreter ARRIVED just BEFORE the meeting began" and not "HAD BEEN arrived"
Why don't we use the pluperfect ? The action is nevertheless before another action in the past !

Hello,
C'est ce qu'on appelle la concordance des temps:
The interpreter ARRIVED just BEFORE the meeting began (yesterday/last month/etc)
ou
The interpreter had arrived just before the meeting had begun/started (they told me that...)
"HAD BEEN arrived" n'existe pas; on peut dire 'arrived/had arrived'.
Le verbe 'arrive' ne peut pas se mettre au passif.
C'est différent de 'had been broken' par exemple où break peut se mettre au passif.

Pourtant, on peut très bien dire "I had been watching TV when my mother arrived" ?

Hello,
"....when my mother arrived" n'a rien à voir avec "had been arrived" qui n'existe pas, ou "had been".
"had been watching" est correct.
Je ne saisis pas votre problème, sauf que vous semblez tout mélanger et ne plus rien comprendre.
