    Bonjour à toutes et à tous !

Quelqu'un serait-il dans la capacité de corriger ce petit paragraphe s'il vous plaît ?
Je ne sais jamais quel temps employer quand on parle d'une manière générale en anglais....
    Merci beaucoup beaucoup d'avance...

A dowry is an exchange of goods or money in the context of marriages in some cultures. In India, they are the groom's parents who are asking for gifts to the bride's family. But sometimes, some groom's families are taking advantage of the custom and are asking too much gifts, more than the bride's families can give. And when the luckless girl’s parents can not pay, they are taking revenge on her. Thus, they are often subjected to inhuman treatments : The are starved, Jailed inside her bridal home without contact with her family, severely beaten… And in some cases, the groom backed by his family, forces the bride into an flammable nylon sari, douses her with paraffin and sets her alight. And then, claiming she had caught fire whilst cooking. In 2010, a bride was burned every 90 minutes.
Although dowry was banned by law in 1961, it was never seriously enforced. All such deaths by burning within seven years of marriage were deemed unnatural and cases of murder were immediately registred against the husband and his parents.
That explain why sometimes, some pregnant women prefer abortion when the baby's gender is female, some brides kill themselves …
