    Casual / informal
    Message de tylegal posté le 21-06-2013 à 10:01:15 (S | E | F)
    Hi there! (is it correct?)
Hi everybody! (is it casual or informal?)
    Hello, (casual or informal?)

As I worked on exercise #5839 (thanks to anonyme), I was confused by the use of casual or informal.
I thought it was somehow similar, but it seems it doesn't isn't.

Could anyone explain the difference ? I searched the site then the web, but I found many contradictory explanations... I can't make my mind !
Thank you for your help !

    Hello

I think the explanations here are quite nice:

    Lien internet

We can say those words are similar in their meaning, but not in their use.
In the test you have mentioned they are synonyms.

The word 'casual' comes from French and Latin as you can read here
    Lien internet

and it contains the hint of something happening by chance, which the word 'informal' does not.

    Hope that helps.
