    As well as/help

    Hi
Could anyone please help to solve this?
I understand that as well as doesn't mean AND,otherwise it does mean in addition, but when we use in addition in the sentence, the matter goes differently.
    Examples:
Mary, as well as her friends, is intelligent. Here we emphasise on Mary.
Suppose we omit the commas, "Mary as well as her friends ( is/are) intelligent." Suppose as well as = in addition.
Which one is correct is or are?

    Hello,
    Link

in addition to : besides >> the coach, as well as the team, is ready.

The commas are necessary; if you don't use them, your sentence is not correct.
