Did/was/were past simple questions
Past simple - Asking Questions with did, was, and were
🔹 1. Questions with the verb "to be" (was / were)
To ask questions in the past with the verb "to be", use was or were depending on the subject.
I / he / she / it → was
you / we / they → were
- Structure:
Was/Were + subject + rest of the sentence?
- Examples:
Was he at school yesterday?
Were they tired after the match?
What date was it yesterday?
🔹 2. Questions with regular verbs (not to be)
For all other verbs, use did + the base form of the verb (infinitive without "to").
- Structure:
Did + subject + base verb + rest of the sentence?
- Examples:
Did you watch the film last night?
Did she play football on Sunday?
What time did they arrive?
- Remember:
Never add "-ed" after "did" → Did he watch?
You don't use "did" with "was" or "were". → Was she happy...?
