Only 2 more letters….
Message de serena posté le 20-05-2005 à 16:44:23 (S | E | F | I)

Hello!

This is a vocabulary game I liked very much. As you know, I like sharing everything with dear friends. Let’s see if you’re going to have better feelings than mine after I was done.

Just add 2 letters to each of the following words (in any place) to form a new word. A clue is given to help you.
Ex : SIT. ------> SIXTH : Ordinal number.

1) SEE ------> .......... : Shop assistants do it.
2) WAY ------> ......... : Very tired.
3) LAY ------> ..........: tall and very thin.
4) CART ------> ..........: a vegetable.
5) RAGE ------> ..........: a fruit.
6) WAR ------> ...........: we can’t do without it.
7) DAY ------> ...........: a short hold up.
8) EAT ------> ..........: nobody will ever escape it.
9) OR ------> ..........: part of an apple.
10) HAY ------> ...........: we would all like to be this.

Hope you’ll enjoy it.
Have fun !

Serena, do you really think it's serious to distract this poor old Miss Pernickety from her call of duty

Hello !!

Poussy, thank you !! Good job ! I didn't mean to make you suffer like that, but well, I feel somehow happy though! ....
Grabuge, you're the only one to find "spleen". That's great!

I'll be right back for the correction.

Réponse: Only 2 more letters…. de serena, postée le 02-06-2005 à 12:02:47 (S | E)
Hey there !

Sorry for the delay. Let me give my personal evaluation to each one of you first.
- biglo: you found 12 words out of 15. Good average!
- jardin: 13 / 15 : great !
For BRANDY !!! Yes ! . Well, I never knew it was good with coffee.
- felin: 10/15: Good job overall.
- poussy: 10/15 without cheating . Very good !!
Really it’s not easy. But tell me, how could you find "economy"? .... Never mind, it’s ok!
- grabuge: nice job ! 12/15. As I told you above, you’re the only one to have found "spleen". This is a characteristic of Baudelaire’s personality. A reason why I could never like him.

To end, here are the words; I put into brackets the meaning in French.

1. RIPE ------> RECIPE: helps you cook (recette)
2. DEAR ------> DREARY: dull or boring (ennuyeux)
3. COME ------> INCOME: opposite of expenditure (revenu)
4. ROW ------> CROWD: a lot of people (foule)
5. TEN ------> OFTEN : frequently (souvent)
6. SAW ------> SHAWL: you wear it (châle)
7. SAD ------> STAND: can be tiring to do this for a long time (se tenir debout)
8. BAND ------> BRANDY: it tastes nice, especially with coffee (brandy)
9. RUG ------> RUGBY: popular game in Wales (rugby)
10. SEEN ------> SWEDEN: a country (Suede)
11. SEEN ------> SPLEEN: a feeling of anger (spleen)
12. CARE ------> CARPET: you walk on it (tapis)
13. SET ------> SHEET: a piece of linen (morceau de tissu / aussi: une feuille de papier)
14. STALE ------> STAPLER : used in an office (agrafeuse)
15. POLE ------> POLITE: opposite of discourteous (courtois, poli)

Thank you all for making this game delightful. I just hope you weren’t very angry with me while doing it. We all know the famous saying:
Spare the rod and spoil the child.......

...
