    is it correct to say: there is milk , cheese and bread ? or there are milk , cheese and bread?

    The correct sentence is: there is milk , cheese and bread.

    There + singular if the first word in the enumeration is in the singular form.
    Ex. : There is a boy, two babies and a dog in my garden.

    There + plural if the first word in the enumeration is in the plural form.
    Ex. : There are two babies, a boy, a girl and a dog in my garden.
